Facebook Reels are kind of going nuts right now

Luke here, from DigitalChurch.co with a something I've noticed recently about Reels that I wanted to pass along.

I’ll admit, I don’t fully understand why it’s happening or can articulate the science behind what the algorithm is doing, but I’m seeing crazy hits on some Reels lately that’s worth mentioning.

We manage several social media platforms for churches, and one for a global outreach ministry, and in the last 2 weeks, our Reel engagement has had nearly 10x the usual views. The kicker?

They’re all coming from Facebook views. So, one Reel, posted to IG and FB simultaneously, is seeing massive growth compared to usual on Facebook.

As an example, one Reel got 24,000 views in a weekend. The account has around 3k followers, and usual reel views are 1,00-2,000.

On this particular reel, over 21,000 views came from Facebook.

My assumption is that Facebook is ramping up their Reels viewing to users, and even accounts that have had linked pages for a long time are seeing unexpected increase on FB side of views. This also feeds into Instagram and helps boost the content overall, because it’s treated as one piece of content.

What do we do with this information?

Again, I don’t have a magic formula for you or a 100% guaranteed method for growth – but here’s a few things to check to maximize this interesting discovery.

  • Make sure your church’s instagram page is linked to a facebook page, and that the Reels auto-post to both
  • Share directly from the native Instagram app, not a scheduler or even Meta business suite.
  • Post 2-3 reels of sermon content per week

Hope this helps you get the most of your social media for your church this week! Try it out and let me know what you think.LukeP.S. I

‘ve got some free resources and sermon content over on digitalchurch.co, totally free. Check it out — > https://digitalchurch.co/downloads/
I also have a “recycle bin” in there that has some unused sermon content for Easter that may help you if you need it.
